The Executive Branch #2

Source #1: http://countrystudies.us/united-states/government-7.htm

Quotes: "Within the executive branch itself, the president has broad powers to manage national affairs and the workings of the federal government."

"The president can issue rules, regulations, and instructions called executive orders, which have the binding force of law upon federal agencies but do not require congressional approval."

"In times of war or national emergency, the Congress may grant the president even broader powers to manage the national economy and protect the security of the United States."

Explanation of Connection: Even though the Executive Branch includes the vice president, Cabinet members and heads of selected agencies; the president seems to have the most powers. He oversees the armed forces, signs or vetoes laws, appoints federal judges etc. The President is considered the higher power (since he does run the country). He gets more responsibilities, more situations to deal with, and more on his plate in general; while trying to run our country, in the best way possible.

These quotes are connected to the Executive Branch because they are telling what the duties of the person (who is the head of this branch) are, and how much responsibility the president has to take on.

In my opinion, the president has the most responsibility because he is portrayed as the one man who runs the United States. He makes laws, keep everything together, in order etc. The president has powers that does not need approval from other parties, which means he can basically do anything he wanted to do, if he choose to.

The Juducial Branch

Quotes: "Where the Executive and Legislative branches are elected by the people, members of the Judicial Branch are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate."

"The Supreme Court rules whether something is constitutional or unconstitutional—whether or not it is permitted under the Constitution."

Explanation of Connection: The Judicial Branch consists of the Supreme Court, which explains the meaning of the Constitution and laws passed by Congress. The main role of the judicial branch is to interpret laws created by the legislative branch, and passed by the executive branch.

In my opinion, it's best for the judicial branch to inforce laws and decide whether or not something is constitutional. The head of the judicial branch is the Supreme Court, courts make the final decision as to if someone should be sent to jail, receive the death penalty, or be set free. Inforcing laws will help the citizens obey the constitution and law, and stay out of trouble; most people would rather not go to jail or be sentenced to death because they value their lives.

Quotes: "The powers of the Executive Branch is vested in the President of the United States, who also acts as head of state and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces."

"The President is responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws written by Congress and, to that end, appoints the heads of the federal agencies, including the Cabinet."

Explanation of Connection: The Executive Branch is mainly run by the President because he maintains the balance between the Legislative Branch and the Judicial Branch. The President also, checks the powers of the other two branches, to make sure one doesn't gain more power over the other; this is pretty bizarre, since the Legislative Branch seems to have more power than all branch's put together.

The Executive Branch carries out all of the laws; the purpose of the executive branch is to execute, enforce and administer the laws that Congress passes.

I believe that, the President should be the main person to carry out the laws because many people look to him as a role model; if they see him breaking the law, or behaving outrageously, then more than likely they will follow his lead. If the President presents himself as well put together, respectable and honest man; I'm sure the people who look up to him will want to present themselves in the same manner.

Quotes: "We might can conclude that the legislative is the strongest branch because it has the power to structure much of what goes on in the other branches."

Explanation of Connection: This video is basically saying that the legislative branch has the most power, out of all the branch's of government. The powers of government should all be COMPLETELY equal, since they are suppose to be set equally in the first place. Even though the legislative branch makes the laws, they should still have the same balance of power (that would be where Checks & Balances come in).

The Legislative Branch #2

Quotes: "The legislative branch of US government is the US Congress, created by article I of the Constitution. The upper-house of Congress is the US Senate, the lower-house is the House of Representatives."

Special Powers & Responsibilities
 Senate:
  • Approve presidential nominations to the federal courts (including the Supreme Court, by majority vote)

  • Approve presidential appointments to federal positions (by a majority vote)

  • Approve treaties (by 2/3 vote)

  • Serve as jury in impeachment trials

  • Select a Vice-President if the electoral college fails to

  • House of Representatives:

  • Originate all spending ($$) bills

  • Serve as prosecution in impeachment trial

  • Select a President if the electoral college fails to

  • Explanation of Connection: The two bodies of of the Legislative Branch (House or Representatives and Senate) each have different special powers and responsibilities, that help run our country as smoothly as possible. This is probably the best for the US because the citizens want to vote the right people into office (the people who will be involved in making laws that we will live by). Also, the people elected in the House and Senate want to keep their places and be re-elected, so they will most likely pass the bills that majority of the people like.

    The Legislative Branch #1

    Source #1: http://truthsavvyonline.com/threegov.html

Quotes: "The Legislative Branch (Congress) writes the laws.  They make the laws for the country and create agencies and programs."

"The legislative branch of government has the authority to make laws for the nation. It was established in Article I of the Constitution with the creation of Congress."

Explanation of Connection: The Legislative Branch has two separate bodies, the House of Representatives and the Senate. These two bodies, together, make up Congress. The two bodies (Congress) work together to write, debate and pass bills; and if the bill gets approved in both parties it is then passed to the President for final approval.

In my opinion, this is a good way to pass a bill. These bills are suppose to be for the best interest of the people, while considering it, the bill should be read-over by many different people with different views and opinions; to see if it would be best for all the people of the United States to live by for the rest of their lives.

Amendment X: Rights of the States under Constitution

    Drinking Age

Quotes: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people."

"What it means is that the powers that the federal government should have are detailed in the Constitution, and also that there are rights and powers which are specifically given to state governments and explicitly forbidden to the federal government -- and that if something is not mentioned, if the power in question is not explicitly detailed in the Constitution, then the _default_ is that the federal government does not have that power."

Explanation of Connection: In many different states and countries the drinking age varies, they range from as young as 16 to about 21. According to the tenth amendment, the states have a right to make their own laws; and they don't have to have the exact same ones as other states. I think, this is a good thing because every state/country should be able to express its own individuality and have a different set of laws/rules from other states, countries and regions.

This can be connected to the tenth amendment, which allows the right of the states under the constitution because no where in the constitution does it say there has to be a certain drinking age that all states have to obey. Many states ca have different ages in which they choose to let their people drink, but they will have to deal with the consequences, if there happens to be a problem.

If you ask me, letting young teenagers drink is one of the main reasons for so many teenage car accidents and deaths. They are letting these teenagers drink, and of course they will be and are tempted to drink and drive, which of course will end in terrible consequences. I think, that the drinking age in all states should at least be 21, because then the people will be fully grown and should know better (even though the teenagers should also).
